Vestas to deliver turbines for Florida II wind project in Uruguay

CTBR Staff Writer Published 24 August 2015

Glymont, a joint venture between Akuo Energy and Eurus Energy America, has awarded Vestas a contract to supply turbines for the Florida II project in Uruguay.

Under the contract, Vestas will supply, install and commission 15 V117-3.3 MW turbines. The deal includes a 10-year service agreement and Vestas' Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system.

Vestas expects to deliver the turbines in the first quarter of next year, with commissioning of the wind farm planned for the third quarter.

Uruguay's state-owned grid operator, UTE, will buy the energy generated from the Florida II project, which extends the Florida I wind farm that was developed by Akuo Energy in 2013.

Vestas Mediterranean president Marco Graziano said: "Uruguay is taking sound measures to almost triple its use of wind power and we are pleased to partner with Glymont to contribute to the developing of wind power in the country."

Akuo Energy chief executive officer and co-founder Eric Scotto said: "Florida II will be Akuo's third wind project in Uruguay, resulting in a total installed capacity of 142 MW, making us one of the three largest independent power producers in the country.

"Both Akuo and Eurus are pleased to partner with Vestas and are confident that its cutting-edge technologies and expertise will help us maximise the production of this wind power plant."
