Siemens has signed a framework agreement with Ventotec to deliver about 200 direct-drive wind turbines for existing and future projects across Germany.

Siemens will deliver at least 35 units to Ventotec each year over the next eight years.

The turbines will be erected at about 40 of the existing and upcoming onshore projects that are being planned by Ventotec in the German states of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Brandenburg and Thuringia.

Siemens will also offer full-scope service of the turbines under a 20-year maintenance deal.

Neither Siemens nor Ventotec have mentioned about the type and the capacity of the wind turbines which will be supplied.

Siemens said its current direct-drive wind turbines offer rotor configurations and hub heights to cover a range of site conditions and can also be configured for special requirements, enablimng to meet noise abatement regulations and grid requirements.

Ventotec joint managing directors Helmer Stecker and Ralf Heinen said: “This framework agreement allows us to implement our projects within short planning lead times, and gives us continuous access to optimally adapted wind turbines."

Siemens' Wind Power and Renewables Division Onshore CEO Thomas Richterich said: "We are looking forward to the close, long-term collaboration that this agreement will bring.

"As an experienced company with expertise that spans the entire spectrum from project design through licensing to construction and operation of wind farms, Ventotec is a key player in the German market."

Ventotec is being considered as one of the fast growing wind power project developers in Germany, with a total installed capacity of more than 794MW and an investment of over €1bn.
