Siemens Gamesa secures service extension contract for Greater Gabbard wind farm

CTBR Staff Writer Published 06 October 2017

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has announced the renewal of its contract to service the Greater Gabbard wind farm in the UK.

The five-year contract involves operation and maintenance of the 504MW wind farm until 2022.

The Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm (GGOWL) awarded the contract to Siemens Gamesa to provide scheduled servicing, troubleshooting and technical support to the 140 SWT-3.6-107 turbines at the site.

The company will take up onshore 24/7 monitoring and diagnostics of each turbine from its dedicated control room, based in Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK.

Greater Gabbard is the latest of three service contract extensions won by Siemens Gamesa. This is the first Balance of Plant contract after the 10-year secured service agreements for the 175-turbine London Array wind farm and the 54-turbine Lynn and Inner Dowsing wind farms.

The service business of Siemens Gamesa in the UK and Ireland will now monitor more than 3,200 individual turbines at over 128 onshore and offshore wind farms with an output capacity of 9.5GW.

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy CEO, Service, Mark Albenze, said: “We are very pleased that Siemens Gamesa has been selected again to provide service and maintenance services for the Greater Gabbard wind farm.”

“This five-year extension underscores our commitment to providing customers with value-driven service plans targeted to their specific operational needs and complemented with our advanced digital services that help drive down the costs associated with wind energy,” Albenze added.

Siemens Gamesa provides solutions in 53 countries, servicing more than 23,000 turbines worldwide, totaling 54 GW.
