Published 16 November 2016

SeaRenergy and the UK’s Specialist Marine Consultants (SMC) have secured a contract to deliver a range of offshore support services to the 402MW Veja Mate wind farm in the German North Sea.

The 150-day contract started on 1 November with the preparation of the foundations and transition pieces for the installation of the towers and turbines.

The scope of the work includes full project management, quality assurance and technical management, full marine logistics for the duration of the contract, cleaning of offshore structures, monitoring marine growth in offshore structures.

SeaRenergy and SMC will also provide technical inspection and reports, checking, maintenance and replacing damaged parts or components on the wind towers, offering assistance for maintaining offshore substations and transferring project personnel to and fro between the harbour and work site.

SMC and SeaRenergy managing directors Ian Coates and Benjamin Vordemfelde said: “After provision of Client Representation services during foundation installation, provision and installation of the cardinal buoys as well as Marine Coordination during the complete installation, we are pleased that Veja Mate also awarded us with this contract.”

Veja Mate Installation Package manager Tonni Bager said: "SeaRenergy and SMC have been a great support for Veja Mate from the very start of the project and we are happy that we can continue our cooperation during the next phase of the project."

The offshore wind farm, when fully developed and commissioned, will generate about 402MW or over 1.6 Terra Watt hours (TWh) per year of clean energy which will be consumed by 400,000 German households.

The project is owned by Siemens Financial Services, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Highland Group. Development work for the project will be handled by Veja Mate Offshore Project.

The wind farm will be located 95km from the shore and will be installed in the sea at depths of between 39m to 41m.

Siemens will provide 67 SWT-6.0-154 6MW turbines for the project, which is scheduled for commissioning in 2018.
