Peikko to deliver gravity foundation technology for 148MW Swedish wind park

CTBR Staff Writer Published 26 April 2017

Peikko Group will supply its gravity foundation technology for the 148MW Lehtirova wind park in Sweden.

The wind farm is located in Lehtirova, Norrbotten County and is being developed by renewable energy company OX2.

Peikko’s scope in the contract includes deliveries of MODIX Center Anchor, MODIX Rebar Splicings and PSB Shear Reinforcement along with all other standard rebar components of the foundation.

The Finnish firm will also take care of the design of the foundation alongside structural calculations. On the other hand, another Finnish company Empower, which is one of the major contractors for the wind farm, will be handling the foundation construction.

Peikko Group CEO Topi Paananen said: “We are excited to cooperate with Empower in this major wind park project. Previously, Peikko has delivered its foundation solution to OX2 wind farms in Finland where the foundations were also constructed by Empower – the Jouttikallio and Ajos wind farms.

“Continuing the cooperation now in the Swedish market is a significant step for Peikko’s wind turbine foundation technology.”

While the deliveries from Peikko’s end are slated to commence in June and end in October, the foundations are likely to be ready in November.

The 148MW Lehtirova wind park will feature 41 turbines supplied by Vestas of its V126-3.6MW range and having hub heights of 121m. Installation of the wind turbines has been scheduled for 2018 summer.

The Lehtirova wind park has already secured a 10-year power purchasing contract with internet giant Google. The wind farm is expected to generate 490GWh annually is slated to be commissioned in December 2018.
