Goldwind Americas to supply turbines for 1.8GW Viridis wind project in Wyoming

Goldwind Americas has signed an agreement with Viridis Eolia for 1.87GW worth of its permanent magnet direct drive (PMDD) turbines for a multiphase wind power project in the US.

Under the exclusive agreement, which subject to US regulatory approvals, Goldwind will deliver 2.5MW and 3MW of its PMDD machines for Viridis’ Master Plan mega-development in Carbon County, Wyoming.

It is being considered as the largest order for Goldwind Americas till date.

Little Medicine Bow Wind will develop the initial standalone project of 32.5MW, which is expected to start commercial operations in 2017.

Goldwind Americas CEO David Halligan said: “Our partnership with Viridis is another step in our five-year strategy to capitalize on the robust growth of the US wind market.

“This conditional supply of Goldwind PMDD turbines, with industry-leading availability, demonstrates the high performance of our machines and our commitment to expansion throughout the Americas.”

Subsequent projects from Viridis Eolia are expected to take place through 2018 and 2022.

Viridis CEO Juan Carlos Carpio Delfino said: “Viridis has selected Goldwind as exclusive supplier of its PMDD wind turbines and provider of long-term operations and maintenance services to our wind projects in Wyoming.

“These projects will be one of the most important wind energy developments in North America, serving the Western US energy markets, and will bring substantial economic support to the state of Wyoming for years to come.”
