GE to supply 32 wind turbines for Willogoleche wind farm in Australia

GE Renewable Energy has signed an agreement with ENGIE to deliver and install 32 wind turbines for the 119 MW Willogoleche wind farm in South Australia.

On completion of the installation, the wind farm which is located 160km off north Adelaide will generate sufficient electricity that will satisfy power needs of 80,000 South Australian households.

The independent electricity producer ENGIE has a power generation capacity of 112.7 GW and uses renewable sources to produce over 20% of its energy.

The deal marks the first partnership of GE and ENGIE to work on a renewables project in Australia. The 119 MW Willogoleche wind farm will be constructed by the civil engineering construction company CATCON.

The project will feature a combination of 3.8MW turbines and 3.4MW turbines,with a tip height of 150m above ground level and a blade rotor diameter of 130m.

GE Australia, New Zealand & Papua New Guinea president and CEO Geoff Culbert said: “This will be our fourth wind farm to begin construction in 2017, with more than 300 GE turbines either operating or under construction across the country, capable of powering the equivalent of more than 500,000 Australian homes with renewable energy.”

ENGIE Australia acting CEO Matt Donaldson said: “This is a key project for ENGIE as it tackles the major challenges in the energy transition and moves us towards a decarbonised, decentralised and digitised energy system.”

GE Renewable Energy president and CEO Jérôme Pécresse said: “In Australia, we are now working on nearly $2 billion in wind farm projects, representing more than 900MW generation capacity.”
