FairWind installs turbines for 52MW Cerro Grande project in Uruguay

Danish energy firm FairWind has completed the assembly and installation of 22 E-92 wind turbines at the 51.7MW Cerro Grande wind facility in Uruguay.

The project, which took 10 months to complete, was carried out with the involvement of over 80 people, including local technicians from Uruguay.

To offer a one-stop solution for its new client Wobben Windpower, FairWind said that it leveraged both its experienced back-end operations in Europe and local resources in South America.

Uruguay has increased its renewable energy portfolio has soared from nearly 0% to 95% in less than ten years, showed a strong commitment for wind energy generation. The increase in renewable energy production was achieved with no subsidies or increases in consumer costs.

Earlier, FairWind had acquired EU Montage in the US to strengthen its position as a provider of service and installation of onshore and offshore wind turbines.

EUM US, which has 50 employees and a strong customer base, provides scheduled service, supervision, commissioning and blades repair to its clients.

FairWind partner and chairman of the board Steffen Steffensen earlier said: “FairWind sees massive potential in the US market, and by buying an existing company with a good track record, we get the chance to accelerate our market entry.”

In February 2017, FairWind had also strengthened its long-term partnership with Vestas by signing a €25m two-year global frame agreement.
