Commercial operations begin at 100MW Lake Winds Energy Park, US

CTBR Staff Writer Published 23 November 2012

Diversified electric utility Consumers Energy has commenced commercial operations at its 100MW Lake Winds Energy Park in Mason County Michigan, US.

The farm is Consumer Energy's first wind power generating unit and enlisted an investment of $250m under the state's energy reform law.

Lake Winds Energy Park consists of 56 turbines spread across Riverton and Summit townships in Mason County.

Consumers Energy director for transactions and resource planning David Ronk remarked that the project will help the company meet its 2015 renewable energy targets.

"The addition of Lake Winds to the company's portfolio of renewable sources increases its renewable supply to 7 percent of retail sales.

"The completion of other projects under development will increase our renewable supply to 8 percent by the end of 2012," said Ronk.

Consumers Energy manager of hydro and renewable generation Bill Schoenlein added that the commencement of operations at the park testifies the company's commitment to the region.
