Akuo selects Nordex to supply wind turbines for 50.4MW farm in Uruguay

CTBR Staff Writer Published 29 January 2013

France-based Akuo Energy has selected Nordex to supply wind turbines for its upcoming 50.4MW farm in Uruguay.

The proposed facility, located in the Florida district of southern Uruguay, will employ 21 Nordex N117/2400 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2.4MW.

The turbines will be mounted on 91m-high towers.

Nordex will handle the delivery, installation and commissioning of the turbines as well as provide ongoing maintenance for a minimum of 10 years under a service contract.

Nordex USA president & CEO Ralf Sigrist remarked that the two companies were excited to extend their partnership to the new geographic area.

"We are excited by the opportunities that Uruguay can offer as it fulfills its commitments to a renewable energy future.

"We know that our N117/2400, which is specifically designed for high yield in light wind regimes, will help to maximize the potential. The resulting net capacity factor for this site confirms how well-suited this turbine is for the prevailing conditions," added Sigrist.

Akuo Energy CEO Juan Negro noted, "We are happy to play a role as the country moves forward with its plans to diversify its energy matrix and incorporate wind energy as its primary source of renewable energy."

State-owned utility, Usinas y Trasmisiones Eléctricas, has inked a 20-year power purchase agreement with Akuo to procure the electricity generated at the farm.
